Microsoft has just announced a new security feature for Windows 10 that’s supposed to take Windows Defender’s capabilities one step forward and provide an additional protection layer to enterprises.

Called Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection, the new feature can detect, investigate, and respond to threats to a network, offering not only powerful security features but also a significant amount of information to help deal with every attack and make the right choice when it comes to blocking them.
“Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection provides a new post-breach layer of protection to the Windows 10 security stack. With a combination of client technology built into Windows 10 and a robust cloud service, it will help detect threats that have made it past other defenses, provide enterprises with information to investigate the breach across endpoints, and offer response recommendations,” Terry Myerson, head of the operating systems group at Microsoft, says.
A combination of cloud analytics and web data According to Microsoft, Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection relies on cloud security analytics, threat intelligence, and information collected from the web to help detect threats. Furthermore, it can investigate alerts and explore the whole network for signs of attacks while also providing advanced tools to always stay up to date and reduce costs.
A cloud-based backend provides instant access to all its efforts, Microsoft says. Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection comes to complement email protection services from Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection and Microsoft Advanced Threat Analytics.
500,000 systems have already tried this new tool, Myerson explains, and the results are impressive, to say the least.
“Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection is already live with early adopter customers that span across geographies and industries, and the entire Microsoft network, making it one of the largest running advanced threat protection services,” he states.
Windows Defender Advanced Threat Protection will become available later this year, Myerson continues, with more information to be provided in the coming months.
