Microsoft has shared new details on its upcoming augmented reality headset, revealing that HoloLens' battery will last up to 5.5 hours.

During an event in Tel Aviv (via Petri), Microsoft Technical Evangelist Bruce Harris discussed HoloLens' battery life, noting its length is contingent upon how the headset is being used. When pushed to its limits, the device will last around 2.5 hours; otherwise, users can expect the battery to last just over 5 hours.

Harris also confirmed that HoloLens is "totally wireless" and can connect to any Wi-Fi or Bluetooth-enabled device. In fact, Microsoft has no plans to release a wired version. Additionally, HoloLens will be able to natively run any universal application that's compatible with Windows 10.

While the device's field of view is currently comparable to that of a 15-inch monitor approximately 2 feet away from one's face, Harris said the company is looking to expand the size once it's economically feasible. He also revealed that multiple units can be linked together over the internet, allowing several users to simultaneously share an experience together.

Microsoft plans to release HoloLens development kits later this year for $3000. For more on the upcoming AR headset, check out our hands-on impressions of Minecraft for HoloLens.
