Microsoft is keen on continuing its expansion in the hardware sector not only with new features for the Surface Pro and the Surface Book but also with a completely new device that could land in the form of an all-in-one PC.
While we’ve heard about such plans earlier this year, it appears that Microsoft’s plans to launch an all-in-one computer under the Surface brand are advancing nicely, and the company is currently evaluating three different versions of the device.
First of all, it’s worth mentioning that although at first glance the Surface AIO will be a direct competitor to the Apple iMac, Microsoft is actually trying to innovate once again with the Surface lineup and create a device that’s more appropriate for the living room. This means that it’ll run Windows 10 and be in sync with the other devices powered by this OS version, including Xbox and phones.
There are three different display sizes currently being tested internally at Microsoft, according to a report by WindowsCentral: 21-inch with full HD resolution, 24-inch and 27-inch, both with 4K support.

Not all models could see daylight
What’s important to note, however, is that Microsoft hasn’t yet made a decision on what versions of the Surface AIO will be launched, so although three different models are currently being tested internally, not all of them could see daylight when the company decides to unveil them.

And speaking of the unveiling, rumor has it that Microsoft is preparing a new hardware event this fall in New York in order to introduce the new Surface Book 2, the Surface Pro 5, the Band 3, and possibly the new Surface All-in-One PC.
The date makes sense for two different reasons: first, it could be at approximately one year after the introduction of the existing Surface and Band generation, and second, it allows the company to benefit from the growing sales during the holiday season, with new devices seeing a significant boost thanks to the increasing demand usually experienced during this time of the year.
