Internet Explorer 11's user base keeps growing these days, and new statistics provided for the month of November 2014 confirm that more people stick to the default Windows browser rather than install a new one.

Net Applications claims that Internet Explorer 11 is not only the world's number one browser on the desktop right now, but also that this particular browser is quickly gaining more users, so the distance between Microsoft's in-house app and its rivals is increasing every day.

At this point, Internet Explorer 11 is being used on no less than 25.49 percent of desktop computers, up from 24.05 percent the month before and from 16.78 percent in July 2014.

Internet Explorer still leading the browser world

While many call Internet Explorer “the best browser to download Google Chrome,” it appears that some actually like what Microsoft has to offer in this particular side of the industry.

Internet Explorer 11 is thus installed on 1 in 4 desktop computers, while Internet Explorer 8, one of the most popular versions of Microsoft's browsers and which has topped the charts for many months, comes second with 15.11 percent.

Google Chrome is the only non-Microsoft browser on the podium with 11.25 percent, while Firefox 32 is far behind with 5.99 percent.

Microsoft obviously has every reason to be pleased with these figures, especially because Internet Explorer 11 is now available on all modern operating systems and could be an important catalyst for the migration from old Windows versions to newer ones.

Internet Explorer 12 on its way

Since Internet Explorer adoption goes so well, Microsoft is now working to keep its users updated with new features and options, so the company is developing a new version of the browser that could be released as part of Windows 10 in mid-2015.

Internet Explorer 12 is expected to represent one of the biggest makeovers in the history of Microsoft's browser, as the company wants to tweak the app in order to better compete against Chrome and Firefox.

Sources close to Microsoft's development plans indicated that Internet Explorer 12 might feature a new tab bar placed at the top of the screen, thus offering more space for browsing, as well as support for extensions, a feature that's already available on its main rivals.

Internet Explorer 12 could debut in the form of a preview build in a future Windows 10 TP release, while the stable version is expected to see daylight in mid-2015 with the new OS version developed by Microsoft.
