Gaming Mode in Windows 10? Already Possible with Third-Party App

Microsoft is working to make Windows 10 a really impressive product when it comes to the number of innovations offered to customers, so suggestions offered by users do come in handy in this regard.

As we were reading the latest requests posted by users on the Windows UserVoice channels, we came across a really interesting suggestion which not only that makes sense but is also possible to be implemented in the time left until Windows 10 comes out.

Almost 7,000 users voted for a gaming mode option which would pretty much allow them to make full use of their hardware configuration by killing Windows processes which are no longer required when playing games.

By shutting down a number of processes before launching a game and keeping active only those that are mandatory for this game to run and keep the OS alive, performance could be dramatically improved and that’s exactly what these users are trying to suggest.

It could also be used for other resource hog processes

The idea is definitely interesting to say the least, and even though it does have some drawbacks as well, it’s based on a concept that might actually improve performance when dealing with a number of other tasks as well, such as video editing.

“That would also be good for non-gaming tasks, like audio recording with a multitrack sequencer (you don't want stuff in background to eat CPU cycles),” one user suggested.

“Eliminate unneeded services and programs from running in the background consuming RAM and CPU time. I know Windows already kind of does this, but some people don't want or need to multi-task while playing games. Even that little bit of extra resources can make a difference on lower end computers and older laptops,” another one added.

And yes, this is indeed doable, but the biggest problem is obviously to develop a gaming mode that would effectively adjust resource usage for all applications, so working with app and game makers is essential this time.

    Already possible via third-party app

Game Prelauncher is an application that was created with this goal in mind, allowing you to enter a gaming mode that shuts down other processes and lets the game make full use of system resources.

The app automatically saves your data before launching the game, so you can restart your work when you’re done playing.

It has fully customizable profiles for each game, so you can configure what you want to run and what not, thus making sure that everything works well, without risking any other issues with the operating system or with the game you are about to launch.

The app isn’t available for free, but a trial version is also offered, so you can download Game Prelauncher to see how this feature would work on Windows 10.

If this happens it would be great for PC gamers.
