If you want to safely store your files over a really long period of time then ultra blu-rays are a relatively cheap solution. But HDD don't die out of a sudden and you can save your data most of the time.
But for peace of mind you can safely store data relatively cheap on ultra blu-rays.
HDDs don't easily die suddenly. You don't need to care about that sudden death.
Of course, the lifetime of your HDDs depends on how you use them. If you rock them on and off (heavy shocking) or throw them on your floor, the collision will take them away immediately.
On recommended condition of usage, they won't died after ... years.
Btw, it's a good choice to store your data on Bluray Discs if you can afford to do so.
