Malware Bytes is pretty awesome and in conjunction with Windows Defender has worked wonderfully for me for a long time. I own a lifetime premium license so that saves me from the subscription costs as well.

    Best anti-virus: Brain!
Use Linux and your brain, you won't need a anti-virus.

This is how to do it, a normal user shouldnt get virus's unless they clicked something they shouldnt and an adblocker and no script plugin will save you from all that. that being said having a virus scanner installed even if its disabled on your computer is always good just in case.

    fail all that ...

I am currently using Eset Internet Security.
Started using as my last AV was using to much CPU and I found Eset wasn't at the time.
    Regards,
    Gaz

In my opinion Symantec Endpoint Protection.
I am using SEP from several years. It is free as well as complete protection
