Asus Tinker Board—A Mini PC And A Raspberry Pi-killer

Asus released its own Raspberry Pi competitor called Tinker Board few months ago. This board is powered by Quad-core 1.8GHz ARM Cortex-A17 CPU and 2GB dual channel LPDDR3 RAM. For connectivity, you get Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi, 4x USB 2.0 ports, etc. Currently, it costs $60.

Raspberry Pi boards rule the single board computer arena and there’s no doubt about their capability and performance. In the past, we have seen multiple products from other hardware makers too. Technology giant Asus has created its own SBC named Tinker Board.

If you take a quick look at the board, it looks just like a Raspberry Pi. It houses a faster CPU and more RAM as compared to the flagship Raspberry Pi 3. Tinker Board has Rockchip RK3288 ARM Cortex-A17 quad-core CPU with ARM Mali-T764 graphics and 2GB of RAM.

The measurements of Tinker Board, i.e., 3.4″ x 2.1″, make it a little more like Raspberry Pi 3.

Talking about the connectivity options, you get 802.11b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0, 10/100/1000 Ethernet jack, 4 USB 2.0 ports, HDMI output, and a 40-pin header.

Other connectivity options and ports included are 3.5 audio jack, CSI port for camera connection, DSI port with HD resolution support, HDMI port with 4K resolution support, and Micro SD port with UHS-1 support. For supplying power, there’s a micro USB port.

According to ASUS, Tinker Board comes with Debian Linux support and supports Kodi media center.
