AMD Navi GPU spotted in Linux drivers
A reference for AMD's upcoming Navi GPU has been spotted in latest Linux drivers.
While details regarding the Navi GPU architecture have been scarce, we do know that AMD has a solid GPU roadmap and that next-generation Navi GPU will be based on 7nm manufacturing process and feature "next-gen memory", possible either GDDR6 or HBM3.
Earlier slides also suggested some sort of scalability, which will be quite interesting to see.
Our earlier sources suggested that Navi will most likely come with some sort of Artifical Intelligence circuitry. Bear in mind that Navi was a brain-child of Raja Koduri, the same guy that now works for Intel, so it possible that we will see more cooperation between those two companies once Navi launches.
A user from Beyond3D forums spotted the GFX10 architecture entry in AMD Linux drivers and since Vega was referred to as the GFX9, this all points out to the Navi architecture. Interestingly, the string, "new_chip.gfx10.mmSUPER_SECRET.enable [0: 0]" includes the "super_secret" line.
Hopefully, AMD won't hit any snags with the 7nm manufacturing process and we will see some of those first Navi-based graphics cards sometime next year.
