We thought that the NVIDIA GeForce GTX Titan-Z graphics card would be the only one experiencing a major price cut this week, but it turns out that this is not the case. Advanced Micro Devices has some price cuts of its own.

Although this isn't a case of a graphics card going from full to half the price in one day. Indeed, this isn't about graphics cards at all, although the products do have video capabilities.

Basically, the Sunnyvale, California-based company has deemed this a suitable time for making its A-Series of accelerated processing units more affordable.

You might know them. Those mid-range to high-end chips that AMD revealed for desktops earlier this year, and which have Core i3 CPUs as the main competitors.

In truth, Core i3 chips have been doing better than the APUs, as evident from Intel's positive finances while AMD's fell. Maybe now consumer interest will finally tip in the other direction.

The price cuts affect seven processors

The best APU getting a price revision is the A10-7850K, a quad-core with base CPU clock of 3.7 GHz and Turbo Core maximum of 4 GHz.

Its price was of $189 / €189, but the new tag should be of $143 / €143, give or take a few bucks / euro depending on VAT and shipping policies.

The A10-7800, with its 3.5 GHz / 3.9 GHz clocks, is going from $165 / €165 to $133 / €133, while the A10-7700K is switching from $159 / €159 to $123 / €123.

Next up is the A10-6800K, which also happens to be the only other A10-series chip getting a price reduction: from $140 / €140 to $112 / €112. Its performance is of 4.1 GHz / 4.4 GHz.

There are still three more chips to speak about though. Two of them are A8-Series units. One, the A8-7600 (3.1 GHz / 3.8 GHz) is dropping from $110 / €110 to $92 / €92. The second, the A8-6600K (3.9 GHz / 4.2 GHz) is going from $99 / €99 to $92 / €92.

Finally, the A6-7400K (3.5 GHz / 3.9 GHz) is being sold for $58 / €58 now, instead of $85 / €85. A nice inversion, if we do say so ourselves.
The bottom line

AMD's high-end and mid-range APUs have been reduced in price by 15 to 25%. In case you were wondering, the reason some high-speed chips are cheaper than others is because they have a higher TDP. See the table below for full details.

By the way, if you buy an APU before the end of October, you'll get a coupon for Murdered: Soul Suspect, Thief, or Sniper Elite 3.
