    25 worst passwords of 2013

If you have a sneaking suspicion that your passwords are bad, we have some upsetting news: They probably are.

Luckily, SplashData is here to help you change your lazy ways with its annual list of the worst online passwords.

SEE ALSO: The Evolution of the Password — And Why It's Still Far From Safe

I mean, we wear computers on our faces now. Using "password" as your password just seems out of place in a world where you can wear computers on your face, doesn't it? We should know better by now. Looking at SplashData's findings, it's pretty incredible to learn that many of us don't.

The big news with this year's list is that "123456" has dethroned the perennial champion, "password." We're not sure whether that's a good sign or a bad sign, but we're leaning toward the latter. In fact, many of the list's newcomers are simply longer chronological strings of numbers. It would seem that when your "123456" password gets hacked, the popular solution is to add a "7."

Below, we've listed the 25 worst passwords online. If yours is included, seriously think about making a change.

Another tip: don't use the name of your sweetie. A while ago -- late 1990s, I think -- a security firm in Japan found they could crack about 25% of the accounts of Japanese businessmen by trying the 10 most common Japanese women's names as passwords. These guys were using their wife, girlfriend, daughter, or favorite idol singer as their password. I suspect American men aren't any different.

No matter how much you love her, or how easy her name is to remember, don't use it as a password!
