A massive report has just surfaced online concerning Blizzard's big announcements that will be made at the upcoming BlizzCon event that's set to take place this weekend, confirming that Eye of Azshara is actually an expansion for World of Warcraft and that a competitive PvP game is coming to consoles.

Blizzard has gone through some rather interesting periods in recent years, as the large studio saw a shift towards smaller projects, like Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft, while bigger titles, like the long-awaited Titan, were canceled due to a lack of fun factor.

As such, the studio is currently reorganizing itself to focus once again on World of Warcraft, which sees its Warlords of Draenor expansion launch on November 13, while giving more resources to Hearthstone or Heroes of the Storm, the multiplayer online battle arena title that combines all of the studio's main franchises.

Many big announcements are expected later this week at BlizzCon, the special event dedicated to all things Blizzard, but now quite a few of those surprises have been leaked online, via Reddit, by a person who's friends with someone who did some contract work for Blizzard.

Eye of Azshara is actually a World of Warcraft expansion

According to the leaker, the Eye of Azshara project that's been rumored for quite some time and seemed to be the new big expansion for Hearthstone is actually an ambitious expansion for World of Warcraft that's going to debut in early 2016.

Apparently, the announcement is the first of many that will celebrate the next decade of the Warcraft franchise, starting with this add-on for WoW and continuing with new things for Hearthstone, such as the Deathknight class, and even an all-new competitive console game that will just be teased at the upcoming event through an alpha trailer.

In terms of actual content, like the name suggests, the expansion focuses on the Azshara region and is set to bring forth new zones, not to mention new factions for players to interact with.

"Eye of Azshara will be the 'South Seas' expansion players have hoped for. Nazjatar will rise from the ocean and Queen Azshara will begin an assault on Azeroth. New zones will include Nazjatar, Zandalar, the Rift of Aln, and Kul'Tiras. The Alliance will ally with a faction of uncorrupted highborne seeking to usurp their former leader, the Horde with a disgruntled Naga tribe," the leaker reveals.

Big content updates are coming soon after Warlords of Draenor

The report also mentions that Blizzard wants to roll out big content updates for WoW after the Warlords of Draenor expansion hits, so that players have enough reasons to stay inside the game and not cancel their subscriptions. Some of these patches will also bring back fan-favorite Illidan, as apparently players will be able to travel through time and help him escape from his prison. He will lead a faction of demon hunters that might become the next playable class.

Bear in mind that all these details are still rumors and that, for now, nothing is certain.
