Jonathan Blow, the developer behind Braid and The Witness, posted to Twitter recently that newly released The Witness is the top-downloaded game on "a certain torrent site."

Blow noted that he is happy more people are getting to play The Witness, but is still worried Thekla Inc. won't be able to fund its next game if the piracy continues.

Some Twitter users complained that the $40 price tag is too steep, though Blow responded that Braid—priced at $15—was pirated just as much.

Thankfully, The Witness remains in the top 10 on Steam, according to Blow. This should help fund Thekla's next game of "comparable intricacy," which Blow says should take less time to make this go-around.

The Witness released on January 26, and has received critical acclaim from reviewers.
