CD Projekt took everyone by surprise when it announced a few days ago that the highly anticipated The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will be delayed by 12 weeks.

Although this wasn’t the first time the game got pushed back, everyone thought that developers have taken care of any previous issues and no further delays would occur.

According to the official announcement issued by CD Projekt, their team of developers need more time for polishing and due to the fact that the game is huge, it will take more time than they initially anticipated.

Even though the studio is nearing completion of the game, they still have to fix all the bugs and issues affecting the game. In order to make the game as bug-free as possible, CD Projekt has decided that it needs 12 more weeks to finish the game, thus pushing the release to May 19, 2015.

During an interview with Polish media, a member of CD Projekt’s board, Adam Kiciński was kind enough to offer more insight on the reasons behind this further delay of the game.

Eurogamer Poland reports Kiciński stated that “there’s a lot of small errors though, because the game is huge. It’s the only reason behind the delay.” He went on and said that his company did not assume that the game will be that big and only after putting all the pieces together, they realized they needed more time.

Fans have taken the decision to delay the game "very well"

“Let me remind you: it's open and not linear. We are just learning how to play it and we have to catch the little pieces. We know what to do, we just have to do it. We don't want to release the game with bugs that undermine the gameplay,” concluded Kiciński.

CD Projekt’s official also confirmed that, during the time the studio announced the delay of their main project and until today, gamers took the decision very well. He also stressed that “the market is afraid of badly polished games on next-gen platforms.”

That seems like a very accurate description of what happened in the last few months when games like DriveClub, Assassin’s Creed Unity, The Crew, Lords of the Fallen and many other AAA titles were affected by major issues that shouldn’t have been missed by developers in the first place.

Here is hoping this will be the last time Witcher 3 gets delayed, though we kind of doubt developers will be able to fix all bugs in the game by the time it goes live.
