Blizzard confirms that the recently released Warlords of Draenor expansion for World of Warcraft has resulted in the MMO's subscriber count to once again move past the 10 million mark, as apparently many veterans and newcomers got into the online experience thanks to the fresh content available for purchase.

World of Warcraft is without a doubt a global behemoth, ushering in back in 2004 the era of massively multiplayer online role-playing games and making developer Blizzard a huge amount of money through the monthly subscriptions players must pay in order to keep experiencing the title.

In recent years, however, the game's popularity has dwindled, with its once huge subscriber count dropping to just several million people.

However, now that the new Warlords of Draenor expansion is available, it seems that the number of subscribers has once again risen to great heights.
More than 10 million subscribers are now playing WoW

Blizzard now confirms this on its website with actual figures, revealing that, since November 13 when the actual expansion went live, the game's global subscriber base has passed the 10 million mark, with big growth across all major regions.

Warlords of Draenor launched in North and Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and Southeast Asia, and goes live today, November 20, in South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau.

"We’re thrilled that so many players jumped in to play Warlords of Draenor on day one and are having a great time with the new content," says Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. "We poured a lot of hard work and passion into this expansion, and we appreciate all the kind words from players and the overwhelming support they continue to show for World of Warcraft."

The actual expansion sold 3.3 million copies in its first day

The studio also confirms that in the first 24 hours of availability, the Warlords of Draenor expansion has sold over 3.3 million copies, meaning a big part of the existing user base flocked to get the fresh content.

The actual add-on brings forth quite a lot of new things for WoW players to do, including story content focusing on Garrosh Hellscream and his plight to once again unite the Orc clans.

Players can explore the race's homeworld of Draenor and reach the new level cap of 100. To make things easier, each copy of the add-on comes with one free level 90 upgrade for any existing character in your profile.
