The Warcraft movie will be done filming in a matter of weeks, yet it won't be coming out until 2016. The reason for that has to do with taking the necessary time to get everything right, as well as the crowded movie release schedule over the next two years, according to the CEO of Legendary Pictures.

Speaking with CraveOnline, Legendary's Thomas Tull was asked the reasoning for what sounds like a longer-than-usual post-production process. "Well, part of it is getting the date right. As you may have noticed, these next two years, there’s pretty big titles coming out," he said.

The Warcraft movie, which is being produced by Legendary and Universal Pictures, was previously slated to be released on December 18, 2015--the same day as Star Wars: Episode VII--before being delayed until March 11, 2016.

The film is a mixture of both live-action and CG, the latter of which is being worked on by Star Wars effects studio Industrial Light & Magic. The CG work was also a consideration in deciding to wait to release the film, as Tull said, "We wanted to make sure that we got [the date] right, but there are some sequences and some things that [director] Duncan Jones has done that are truly on the cutting edge.

"You want to have plenty of time to make sure that we dial those in. So by the time they get home and set up, it’ll be a little less than two years. It’ll be about 20 months but we really want to take our time and get this right because the technology that’s employed really is some next generation stuff."

Tull confirmed that this won't be a situation where the movie is completed and then left to sit around; when asked if this time would be put to use, Tull responded, "Correct, absolutely."

The first photos from the movie's set were recently released, providing us with a glimpse of what may be the Stormwind throne room. Little is known about the plot except that it tells an origin story of the Humans vs. Orcs conflict. Among the cast members is Dominic Cooper, who spoke earlier this year about feeling the pressure to deliver. Movies based on video games are frequently subpar, but Blizzard insists it's worked hard to avoid letting this happen.

Meanwhile, Blizzard is readying the next expansion for World of Warcraft, Warlords of Draenor. Activision Blizzard announced yesterday that, despite not being available until later this year, the game has already sold 1 million copies.
