Gaijin Entertainment has been a long time supporter of virtual reality (VR) technology, integrating the original developer kit for the Oculus Rift VR head-mounted display (HMD) in its free-to-play massively multiplayer online (MMO) World War 2 combat title, War Thunder. This week a tease from the developer has now confirmed that its title will also be supporting the Oculus Rift’s second development kit (DK2) in the near future.

The team confirmed as much on Reddit in response to a fan asking after support. Speaking of support, Community Manager BatiDari confirmed that “you might want to wait for a small patch for this one.” Later in the same thread he simply teased that support would be coming ‘soon’.

The Oculus Rift DK2 vastly improves on its predecessor with support for positional tracking, allowing players to move their heads forwards, backward, up, down, left and right and have those movements replicated in-game. It also boasts a 1080p OLED display that, on top of the drastically increased resoltuion, offers lower latency when using the device’s head-tracking and low persistence when turning quickly. The first kits began shipping out last week and will continue to arrive throughout the rest of August and September 2014 and beyond.

War Thunder lets players pilot WW2-era aircraft and more, battling against opponents online. The title also plans to support the Project Morpheus VR HMD on PlayStation 4 in the future. VRFocus will continue to follow the title’s support of both VR HMDs, reporting back with any further updates.
