Game-hungry Wii U owners finally got a major release in the form of Super Smash Bros for Wii U late last year, and fans have been more than happy with the immeasurably amount of content that the title brought with it. That said, one issue that we had with the game in our review of Super Smash Bros. was the lack of stages that can be selected in the game’s 8-player mode. While the mode itself escalates the chaos of the series to entirely new heights, there just weren’t enough made readily available.

However, that’s all changed now thanks to the latest update to the home console version of the critically adored crossover that adds a cool fifteen stages to the eight-player melee. That’s right, Nintendo has released an 316MB update which brings the current version of the smashing fight game to 1.0.2., and the best part about this is that fans can download it right now – in some regions. But what existing stages have received this upgrade? We’re glad you asked.

A grand total of 9 standard battlegrounds will be available for eight players to throttle one another on, while an additional 6 Final Destination variants will also be added to the growing list of accessible fight areas in Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. Here they are, listed for your viewing pleasure, below:

Standard Stages

Mario Circuit (X)
Luigi’s Mansion
Pyrosphere
Norfair
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium 2
Town and City
Smashville
Wii Fit Studio
Final Destination Stages

Mario Galaxy
Mario Circuit (X)
Kirby: The Great Cave Offensive
Lylat Cruise
Pokémon Stadium 2
Animal Crossing – Town and City
There’s no question that this update, while completely unexpected, has been for the best. Giving players more options is very rarely a bad thing, but it’s reassuring that there’s still even more free content to come. Nintendo has previously announced that a Tournament mode and a new stage based on the company’s MiiVerse platform are en route, although a date for those aforementioned add-ons is still missing in action.

Meanwhile, the new fighter Mewtwo is still planned to arrive later this Spring and the Big N has yet to rule out additional character DLC. The potential that downloadable content has for Super Smash Bros. is promising, and it’ll be interesting to see just how far the house of Mario is willing to push its latest entries in the series.
