Ubisoft wants to hear more from owners of Assassin's Creed Unity who are experiencing issues like save game corruption following errors or crashes of the game, as it's unsure why such a thing is happening. It also explains just how the new save mechanic works on the game's platforms.

Assassin's Creed Unity launched last week, much to the disappointment of the franchise's millions of fans, as it's filled with plenty of issues and problems, from bad framerate on consoles, to errors, crashes, and many other headaches.

Ubisoft, for its part, is working hard to solve as many problems as possible, but it admits that it still needs data from fans about specific issues with Unity.
More data concerning save game corruption is needed

One particular case, according to the latest official statement, concerns the errors that cause a player's save game file to become corrupted and unreadable.

In some cases, it seems that Unity crashes or throws an error that forces players to reload their past checkpoint. When doing that, the game displays a message, saying that the save file is corrupted. Due to the game's restrictive saving system, players are unable to load an earlier save file or checkpoint, meaning that they have to replay the whole game from the beginning.

"We have received a few reports of issues with saved game corruption or saved game deletion - if you have experienced anything like this please help our investigation by contacting our Customer Support teams. In the meantime, we're working on putting together information that will better explain how our saved game system operates and how to ensure your saved game files are backed up to minimize the potential impact of a critical error," Ubisoft explains.

Unity has a restrictive save system

Ubisoft also shares a few details about the save game system in Unity, saying that it only allows for one file per platform account. If you want another save file, you need to create another local PC, PS4, or Xbox One account. The cloud storage system is also employed but it's unclear if it can help in the case of file corruption.

"Assassin's Creed Unity uses a save system that allows one saved game per platform account, so if you want to restart you would need to either delete your current saved game or open a new platform account. In addition, saved games are stored on cloud storage if it's available so that your saved game is portable and can move from machine to machine alongside your platform account."
