If you’ve thought that the multiplayer online battle arena space is already crowded as is, then learn that it's about to get another contender in the form of Tome: Immortal Arena.

Granted, considering that Riot Games' revenue for its own entry in the genre, League of Legends, was listed at $624 / €500 million for fiscal year 2013-2014, and reports claim that this year the company has already registered a 50 percent increase in earnings, the field is definitely appealing.

League of Legends is, however, insanely popular, so much so that even Valve's Dota 2 cannot hope to equal its massive player base numbers. However, variety is always a good thing, and the world might just be big enough for fresher entries, provided that they find a proper niche to fit into.

Tome seeks to offer an action-packed experience

Tome: Immortal Arena is heading to Steam later this month, and it proposes a much more action-oriented experience, doing away with the tedious farming and lengthy leveling of traditional MOBA matches, and throwing you into the fray from the get-go.

Developer Kixeye opted to take out some of the mechanics that are usually the mainstay of the MOBA genre, such as last hitting, traveling back to base in order to regenerate mana and health and to purchase new items and recipes, taking it all to the frontlines.

Players step into the shoes of a Harbinger, choosing a Guardian from one of six different factions and jumping into the action, which for the time being includes a 3v3 map titled Coliseum and a 5v5 one called Sanctuary.

The developers also plan on releasing a 7v7 map later on, after the title is officially launched.
The game does away with complex recipes and micromanagement

The signature gameplay feature of Tome: Immortal Arena is the fast-paced action, as matches rarely take longer than 15 minutes to play out.

"Every design decision in Tome: Immortal Arena, translates to a faster-paced, more action focused player experience. We've been tuning the game for the past several months in Closed Beta and are thrilled to bring the game to the Steam community with new combat-focused gameplay that distills the best things about the genre into a fresh MOBA experience," Kixeye's Rade Stojsavljevic said.

Tome: Immortal Arena is going to be launched on November 21, 2014, as a free-to-play game. For more information on the game, head over to its Steam page or visit the official website.
