Nintendo fans around the globe have been clamoring for The Legend of Zelda's Wii U debut for some time now. Unfortunately, it looks like they'll still be left waiting for some unspecified time in the future.

Nintendo released a schedule detailing the company's financial reports as well as the upcoming first-party and third-party releases that we can expect to see, and there are few surprises...except, of course, for the fact that The Legend of Zelda is curiously missing from the list itself.

On the schedule are games like Mario & Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, Shigeru Miyamoto's Project Giant Robot, and Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem. In fact, the only two games confirmed for a western 2016 release are Shin Megami Tensei x Fire Emblem and Mario & Sonic.

So how long are fans expected to have to wait? It's a rather strange story, and there's really no concrete answer to it just yet. But it's important to remember that the Wii U version of Zelda was promised a launch title way back when the console was announced. According to the schedule that was published, it looks like it's still rocking a "TBD" date instead, which is a little worrying. Of course, that doesn't mean anything concrete just yet. That could mean anything, to be honest -- perhaps there just hasn't been an official date just yet. Maybe that's coming around the corner. But right now, it looks like that could possibly be a long, long time away.

Originally, the game was scheduled for a holiday release this year after delays set it back once more in March. And now, with Satoru Iwata's untimely passing and the uncertainty of what's going on internally, t's unsure when we'll actually see the game coming out. It could end up going the way of The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, where it ended up coming out for the Wii as a launch title despite having been announced for the GameCube. There was the eventual GameCube port of course, but it's possible this Zelda could possibly suffer the same fate.

Whatever the case, it's always a bit of a painful wait for the next Zelda title, especially when it holds as much promise as the Wii U version looks like it does. Hopefully later this year we'll see more details surface regarding a possible release date or at least something to hold on to. It can get pretty tiresome waiting for new details to eke out, you know. Nintendo fans probably know that better than any other fan base out there.
