It’s not uncommon for a big, AAA game to have different release dates for different regions. Usually, situations like this come about because a game still needs to be localized for various countries, or things within the game itself need to be changed to fit whatever ratings are in place. It’s frustrating, to be sure, especially when the game in question is one that many people have been eager to play, but it’s a necessary step, regardless.

Street Fighter 5 is a game that won’t be following this path, however. When the upcoming fighting game eventually releases next year, it will be a simultaneous launch across the world, with no Street Fighter fan left behind. This also means that, come launch day and provided the servers hold up, everyone should be able to find a match online.

Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono and Tomoaki Ayano announced the same-day release plans during a livestream from a Hong Kong video game convention (via Event Hubs), but very little else was shared, which is understandable considering Street Fighter 5 is still a ways off.

Said Ayano:

“We will have a simultaneous [Street Fighter 5] release all across the world. No region will be late, and everyone will be able to play at the same time.”

A simultaneous worldwide release for SF5 may concern some fans following the events of the recent beta, which began with numerous matchmaking and server issues before concluding with its unfortunate postponement. But Capcom has said that it still plans to have at least three more beta tests before the game’s release, which means more opportunities for the developer/publisher to work out any issues its online component may have, including cross-platform play between the PS4 and PC communities.

An ambitious feature like this could keep Street Fighter 5 going for a long time, and potentially prompt other games to do the same. It would come as a huge disappointment to see it release without it, though, or with a lackluster version of it.

Of course, it’s possible that, in one of the future betas, Capcom will allow PS4 and PC players to test cross-platform play, if only to see how the game performs. It is what a beta is for, after all.

Street Fighter 5 doesn’t have a definitive release date yet, but it’s currently set to release in Spring 2016 for the PS4 and PC. According to Capcom, it will never come to the Xbox One.
