The SNES Mortal Kombat games are still regarded today as some of the best games released on the console. Despite their popularity, they still haven’t appeared on the Wii U Virtual Console. Unfortunately, it looks like they may never will.

Mortal Kombat series co-creator Ed Boon has recently confirmed on Twitter that a Wii U Virtual Console release of any of these games is currently in the works. Unfortunately no reason has been specified for this but given how right to the point the answer is, we shouldn’t expect them to surface anytime soon.

The release of Mortal Kombat games on SNES back in the day stirred a bit of a controversy. It was a time when Nintendo was trying more than ever to keep its SNES console as family friendly as possible, censoring games for even the smallest reason. The first Mortal Kombat game, just to make an example, has been altered in a few ways, with blood getting removed and some fatalities changed. Due to this, gamers wanting to enjoy the game home on their gaming consoles as originally intended could only do so by purchasing a SEGA Genesis version of the game.
