After so many games with 2015 release dates took the stage at E3, it’s no surprise that talk of alpha and beta tests were more prominent at the event than ever this year. Although Star Wars: Battlefront didn’t offer up access to an alpha or beta, plenty of other games (including Gears of War: Ultimate Edition) did. According to EA, the wait for early access to Star Wars: Battlefront may be over for some lucky fans far earlier than expected.

Star Wars: Battlefront hit the stage at E3 and offered an extended look at gameplay from the upcoming shooter. After months of anticipation, the crowd was generally impressed. There’s no denying that the game is gorgeous and although the hands-on reports from the show floor weren’t 100% positive, most journalists seemed to give the game a thumbs up. Soon, some PC gamers will also get a chance to go hands-on with an early build of the Star Wars shooter.

Starting right now, PC gamers can sign-up to become alpha testers for Star Wars: Battlefront. The PC-exclusive test is not guaranteed to everyone who submits the form, but players should get their names in the hat as soon as possible if they want a good chance at playing the game before its official release.

“The purpose of the Star Wars Battlefront Closed Alpha is to perform a number of technical tests that will help the team at DICE as they continue the development of the game…space in the Closed Alpha is very limited and we may not be able to accept all players who apply.”

In the invitation to apply, EA also provided the minimum requirements for the alpha. It is important to remember that these details do not necessarily represent the requirements that will apply to the game’s official release…

“CPU: Quad Core CPU e.g. Intel Core i5-2300 @ 2.8 GHz or AMD Phenom II x4 955 @ 3.2 GHz or AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0 GHz
RAM: 6 GB
OS: Windows 7 SP1, Windows 8/8.1 (64-bit operating system required)
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 or AMD Radeon HD 7970 with 2 GB of Video Memory”

Applications are open until Tuesday, June 30, so interested parties with a compatible PC rig should fill out the form while they have the chance. Console gamers are likely starting to feel a bit jealous, but so far DICE and EA haven’t released any details about a companion closed alpha on the PS4 or Xbox One.

Game Rant had a lot of fun with Battlefront at E3 and we expect testers to enjoy the early build of the game, as well. Although there has been speculation that the game won’t meet it’s November launch goal, an alpha sometime in July seems to suggest that the game is on the right schedule. Although there is pressure to get the game out before the upcoming movie, EA promises that it won’t release the highly-anticipated title until it is definitely ready. Gamers would definitely prefer to wait a few extra weeks rather than deal with another Batman: Arkham Knight PC debacle…

Star Wars Battlefront is set to be released on November 17 for PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
