The first true expansion for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, called Lord of the Hunt, has just received some fresh details about its contents, its new missions and story sequences, and the many other things it adds to the regular game.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor launched at the beginning of the month and surprised a huge amount of people with its high-quality action adventure experience set in the open world of Mordor. Players fell in love with the Nemesis system, which made the whole environment, not to mention the enemies, come alive with all sorts of great details and forged plenty of rivalries between the Uruks and protagonist Talion.

Even before launch, developer Monolith and publisher Warner Bros. confirmed that there would be quite a few expansions designed to augment the story and add plenty of fresh elements to the regular game.

Lord of the Hunt is the first full-fledged add-on

The first in the wave of expansions for Shadow of Mordor is an add-on called Lord of the Hunt, according to a brand new statement from Warner Bros. and Monolith.

As its name implies, the new DLC focuses on hunting and sees protagonist Talion once again team up with dwarven hunter Torvin to tame new beasts that have just been unleashed by Sauron's minions across Mordor.

"In Lord of the Hunt, Sauron has dispatched lethal Beastmaster Warchiefs to exterminate the monsters of Mordor. Talion will join Torvin the Dwarven Hunter and use his powers of Domination to turn these menacing new beasts against the Warchiefs, proving that Mordor cannot be tamed," the two companies say.

Many things are included in the expansion

Lord of the Hunt brings not only fresh activities for Talion and Torvin, but also new enemies that ride huge monsters like the Wretched Graug, which can vomit toxins, or the predatory Caragath, which are stealthier versions of the regular Caragors. Bear in mind that Talion himself can also ride these beasts and even raise a dangerous Ghul Horde to take enemies by surprise.

Plenty of collectibles, epic runes, and trophies are available in the expansion, as is a fresh character skin that turns Talion into the "ultimate Beastmaster."

The Lord of the Hunt expansion for Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is set to debut for the game later this year on PC, PS4, and Xbox One platforms. Season Pass owners will get it, as well as the following add-ons, for free, while regular owners will have to pay for it.
