The first ever South West Virtual Reality (SWVR) Meetup took place last night in Bristol, UK. Run by the team at Opposable Games, the event saw a range of virtual reality (VR) developers and enthusiasts gather under one roof to show off the latest VR videogames, head-mounted displays (HMD) and more. Despite hosting the show, Opposable Games didn’t show off its own upcoming VR title, Salvaged. However the developer recently confirmed that the title will make its debut at the next event.

“What a night!” Opposable Games wrote on the SWVR Twitter account. “We had a lot of fun, watch this space for the next one. We’ll be bringing Salvaged VR! Thanks to everyone for coming!”

Salvaged is an upcoming tactical action title in which players issue commands to a squad of four soldiers as they explore randomly-generated wrecks of space ships. Soldiers encounter various types of enemies from horrific monsters to space pirates as they search for a ship’s black box recorder and collect any salvage they find along the way. It’s then the player’s job to guide the combatents to victory as they watch events unfold in real-time through four screens.

The title originally only supported a PC and mobile setup in which players would monitor soldiers on the PC screen and issue commands through a tablet or smartphone. Support for the Oculus Rift VR HMD was later added, adapting the title for a single screen in which players sit at a command console issue orders.

Salvaged had been running a Kickstarter campaign to fund development but ended up being unsuccessful. Opposable Games remains hard at work on the title, but is yet to reveal how its schedule has been impacted. A date for the second SWVR is also yet to be revealed. VRFocus will continue to follow Salvaged going forward, reporting back with any further updates on its development.
