With the release of the third installment in the Superhot franchise, players who have purchased the original Superhot game will receive a copy of Superhot: Mind Control Delete for free. This stand-alone game will be gifted to players on the platform where they purchased the original game and it will be distributed on July 16 when Superhot: Mind Control Delete releases.

SUPERHOT Team, the developers of multiplatform hit Superhot, say that Superhot: Mind Control Delete was originally intended to be a free expansion for the original Superhot game. Over the past three years of development, the expansion grew into its own stand-alone experience that boasts to be bigger and bolder than the original title. Mind Control Delete's original intent was to give those who purchased the original Superhot a longer experience. While the scope of the game changed over its developmental period, the conviction to give the game to original players for free still stood.

The details behind the free giveaway can be found in a wall of fast-scrolling text at the end of Superhot: Mind Control Delete's reveal trailer. The text explains why the game is free to original users as well as how to claim the free title. If the player bought the original Superhot on Steam, Google Stadia, Epic Games Store, or PlayStation 4 then the game will appear in the player's game director on its own. If the player purchased Superhot on their Xbox One, they should expect a system message with a voucher to activate a free copy of Superhot: Mind Control Delete within a few days of release.

If the player purchased Superhot on any other platform they will need to email a copy of their receipt to freemcdplease@superhotgame.com and they will be provided a DRM-free copy of Superhot: Mind Control Delete. It is also important to note that the free copy is only available to those who purchased a copy of the original Superhot before July 16. There are still a couple of days left to purchase Superhot and be eligible to receive a free copy, but a purchased copy after July 16 will not come with a free copy of Mind Control Delete.

At the time of publication, Superhot is $9.99 on Steam which makes purchasing the title an absolute steal, especially since it comes with a free copy of its standalone follow-up. While Superhot: Mind Control Delete is not a direct sequel to the series, events in the second game might connect to the original game. The devs state that knowledge of the original game is not required, but it may benefit the player to have played the original.
