Developer Harmonix has revealed its plans for future updates coming to Rock Band 4.

In a detailed blog post, Harmonix described its effort to be more transparent between development and the community. To that end, the company revealed that highly requested features, both setlists and practice mode, will be coming for free to Rock Band 4 in 2016.

Additionally, January's update will be "modest in scope" compared to December's, according to Daniel Sussman, product manager for Rock Band 4. The developer is making song exports a priority for the month, first bringing songs from the original Rock Band over, with Rock Band 2 and Lego Rock Band to follow.

Sussman also provided an update on online multiplayer coming to Rock Band 4, calling it "a much bigger conversation." According to Sussman, online play with Rock Band is difficult because of the amount of combinations from the player, including instrument types, different difficulty levels, and song affinities between players. Because of this, a lot of testing and technical back end work has to be done to provide "a fun, stable experience."

While online multiplayer is still a possibility for Rock Band 4, Sussman isn't sure where the feature fits into the game's plans. He added that the company will be sending out a survey to players about online play to help direct development.

As far as what other updates could be coming to Rock Band 4 in 2016, Sussman said that Harmonix is "actively working" on other features such as Xbox One support for ION drums.

Rock Band 4's December patch brought multiple features, including variable "Breakneck" speed and Brutal Mode. The ability to export songs from Rock Band 3 was also added.
