Video game developer and publisher Capcom is announcing that the long-awaited Resident Evil 2 Remake Project is at the moment approved inside the company, which means that gamers will be able to play it at some point in the future.

Yoshiaki Hirabyashi, who will work on the title inside R&D Division 1, is quoted as saying, "It’s been great to see so many positive comments from fans that have pushed the project to get approved. The team here at Capcom Japan really appreciates fans’ passion and support and will do our best to bring fans what they really want."

At the moment, Capcom is not offering any details about the Resident Evil 2 Remake Project, including what platforms it will be offered on and when it might be launched.

The company has not talked about the way the core mechanics of the title will be enhanced, what engine will be used, and whether there are plans to deliver any extra content.

Resident Evil 2 is one of the most loved titles in the franchise and fans have been asking for a remake for a long time.

The problem with the announcement is that it suggests that Capcom will continue to explore the past of the franchise to create remakes rather than find ways in which it can make the series appealing to modern gamers.
