During a panel at PlayStation Experience today, the team behind Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End revealed new details about Laura Bailey’s character, who we saw for the first time earlier this week in footage revealed at The Game Awards.

Bailey plays Nadine Ross, a South African character and the leader of an army-for-hire called Shoreline that plays into the events of the game.

“Her dad was a general in the army. He took all the best soldiers and started a group that runs amok all over the world and does horrible things,” Druckmann explained. Nadine is their leader.

Druckmann also addressed having Bailey, a white actress, portray a black character. He explained that while he was initially concerned, Bailey was the best choice out of a wide, diverse casting process, and watching her performance, she embodies the character so well that he doesn’t see it as an issue.

He went on to say that character appearances don’t necessarily have to match an actor’s, citing Troy Baker’s character Joel in The Last of Us as an example, as well as another Uncharted 4 character who is white but played by a black actor.

The panel also revealed new footage including a scene between Nadine and Sully at a party as Drake and his brother prepare for a mission.

Nolan North also took a moment to highlight the fact that, while he and his fellow actors get lots of attention in the media and from fans, the developers at Naughty Dog also deserve the spotlight.

Uncharted 4 will launch on March 18, 2016, and its multiplayer beta is going on now. Earlier today, Sony revealed that the game will have branching dialogue options for the first time.
