With the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 versions of Grand Theft Auto V set to be launched tomorrow, the development team at Rockstar and Sony announces that they are aiming to introduce some expanded options for the DualShock 4, designed to make it a more useful tool during gameplay.

In an announcement on the PS Blog, the company explains that the Touch Pad feature, which has been relatively ignored by other titles, will be used by the open world experience in order to allow the gamer to move from first-person to third-person perspective, but also to switch between radio stations, equipped weapons and camera angles.

Grenades can also be thrown and the added DualShock 4 speaker can be used to constantly relay police chatter to the player, which can give them an advantage when they are looking to get away from the cops.

The same device can also be used to get calls from Michael, Trevor and Franklin, the main cast of GTA V.

Sony adds, “The controller’s light bar will change colour based on the character you are playing and when the LSPD heat is upon you, the Light Bar will flash red and blue to make it perfectly clear that you might want to be somewhere else.”

GTA V might double its numbers on current-gen consoles

Grand Theft Auto V is already a big success on the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, and the launch on current-gen devices feels like a second start for the title.

On the Sony and the Microsoft devices, gamers can enjoy an all new first-person mode, which has been designed from the ground up to offer more immersion and excitement during the action sequences.

At the same time, there are improved damage models for gamers to experience and a wide array of new content for the radio stations, including some exclusive tracks.

There’s denser traffic to deal with and the quality of the graphics has also been boosted, which means that the entire world of Los Santos is even more beautiful than before.

GTA V will also be launched on PC in late January of next year, with even higher resolution textures.

Until then, the fan community will also be able to enjoy the all new Heists downloadable content on all platforms, with big new cooperative missions that are designed to allow gamers to work together in order to get access to some impressive rewards.
