PlayStation 4 is holding a firm grip on Europe, Sony has told VG247, enjoying nothing less than 70% market-share in any European country.

PlayStation 4 is currently enjoying nothing less than 70% market-share in any European nation, SCEE president Jim Ryan has told VG247.

“We have a very significant market leadership,” said Ryan, speaking in Los Angeles earlier this month.

“Well, we have market leadership in every country in Europe, and have very significant market leadership in continental Europe. Extremely significant. I don’t think market-share’s any less than 70%, and frequently greater than 90% in continental Europe.”

While Sony’s success in Europe is allowing the company to take increasing risks with software, such as Media Molecule’s unusual Dreams project, recent accomplishments mean the firm feels under no pressure to cut prices.

“Particularly in Europe… our momentum is still very considerable,” Ryan said. “We’re happy with the price and we’re happy with the value proposition.

“Consumers, equally and more importantly, appear to he happy with the price and the value proposition. We’ll leave it where it is for now.”

While PS4′s E3 focus was on 2016 and beyond, with key titles such as Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian not appearing until next year, Ryan pointed to third-party games as propping up Sony’s Christmas this year.

“I think Star Wars Battlefront looks absolutely fantastic. I’ve actually visited DICE to see it only three months ago, and the way that thing’s come on… I thought it looked absolutely stunning,” he said.

“We’re very pleased to be working with EA on that particular title. Obviously, now having partnered with Activision on Call of Duty it’s of huge significance for us.”

Ryan’s comments came the day after a barnstorming PS4 press conference at E3 2015 earlier this month, at which a Final Fantasy 7 remake and Shenmue 3 were both confirmed.
