The development team at DayBreak Games is announcing that the PlayStation 4 version of PlanetSide 2 will be launched on June 23, with gamers able to access the MMO with all the improvements that have been offered on the PC since launch.

The PS Blog announcement explains that the core mechanics of the title will be untouched, with the focus on massive battles and solid teamwork.

The development team adds, "We recently set a Guinness World Record for the Most Players Online in a Single FPS Battle, with 1,158 players in a single fight! The game is synonymous with large-scale warfare, and it’s truly an experience you have to see to believe."

PlanetSide 2 is using a free-to-play model , which means that players will be able to enjoy the core ideas without paying, although an in-game store is offering them a range of convenience and cosmetic items to buy.

On the PlayStation 4, the MMO has been streamlined, and gamers will be able to get access to a new battle map, called Koltyr.

The developers are also promising that they will deliver frequent game updates, a special holiday-themed event, more items and other surprises for the most dedicated of gamers.

No cross-platform play between the PS4 and the PC is planned for PlanetSide 2.
