PlanetSide 2's journey to the PlayStation 4 has been a slow one, but they say the best things come to those who wait. So while we still don't have a release date, game creative director Matt Higby did reveal that the PS4 version of PS2 will be at E3 next month.

"We talked a little bit about some of our plans about when we're talking about shipping and when we're talking about giving players some hands-on on it. We will be at E3, so you will be able to see the PS4 version of PlanetSide 2 at E3," Higby said in the latest PlanetSide 2 Command Center video. Of course, E3 is media-only which means the general public will have to wait until MLG (June 20-22) to go hands-on with the game.

Talking of the status of the game, Higby discussed a recent trip to to Sony Computer Entertainment America headquarters where they showed off the latest build of the game.
"The last time that they had seen the PS4 version of the game we had a character spawning into what we call a 'clean room' which is basically just an empty white room without anything going on in it. So we had a character walking around in there. You could see that the engine worked and that you can walk and shoot a weapon and things like that, but it wasn't a game," he said.

"And this time, which has been about a month and a half since the last time they'd seen it, we actually had people log into Indar on our internal servers," Higby explained. "So they were able to actually see a couple dozen of people running around shooting, using vehicles, aircraft -- all the kind of stuff you really need to have for a PlanetSide game. And we were able to demonstrate all that stuff on the PS4, running at a smooth frame rate, running at 1080. So we're very happy with the progress that's being made on that."

Higby added, "Our biggest effort right now is optimization on the client and getting the UI working so that we have a good console friendly user interface. So that continues to be our main effort, but we're making a lot of really good progress."

The 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo will be held in Los Angeles next month, June 10-12. While we don't know if it'll be a hands-off walkthrough demonstration or a hands-on preview, at least we know we'll be getting some new videos of the game in action.
