Out April 11 for PC, Mac, and Linux.

Planescape: Torment is getting remastered for the ages: the classic role-playing game will be re-released on April 11 with improved gameplay, a better soundtrack, and 4K resolution. You can get a look at the brand new trailer above.

The game was released in 1999 to critical acclaim. Since then, it's garnered many lifelong fans and taken its place among the best RPGs of all time (GameSpot even named it one of the 'Greatest Games of All Time'). Beamdog, the publisher behind the new Enhanced Edition, has partnered with Planescape: Torment's original lead designer Chris Avellone. Together, they've curated a series of gameplay updates, bug fixes, and enhancements. Here's what's new in the remaster:

New interface rebuilt for 4K resolution
No loading times between areas
A remastered musical score
A whole host of gameplay tweaks. Including quickloot, the ability to zoom, a floating combat log, and support for widescreen
The ability to turn off these new features, if you're looking to relive 1999 and play the game in a more authentic form.

Planescape: Torment's story follows an immortal being known as "The Nameless One." Much of the game's lore comes from the Dungeons & Dragons universe, while the unorthodox plot takes players on a journey to uncover the being's lost memories and figure why they cannot die.

"The game told a very unusual story with plenty of twists and turns," wrote GameSpot's Andrew Park in 2006.

"Unlike in most other fantasy games, you weren't a handsome hero in shining armor looking to save the world; you were a grotesque character in a hostile and bizarre place just trying to find out who you really were. Because so much of the character's story came from your own choices and interpretations, you would eventually make the Nameless One's story your own."

Planescape: Torment will cost US $19.99 when it's released. iOS and Android releases are coming soon too.
