With Windows 10 now launched and installed on a lot of computers already, Microsoft is apparently exploring the best mix of entertainment and video games to deliver in the future on the PC and the Xbox One.

Phil Spencer, the leader of the Xbox division at the company, tells Polygon in an interview that "As Windows 10 has moved to free upgrade, and us focusing more on service and store, the importance of entertainment and games to the Windows ecosystem has become really prevalent to the company."

Microsoft is currently saying that it seeks to introduce more integration between the two platforms, and more details about how it will be achieved will be shared in 2016.

At the moment, those who have a Windows 10 PC can use an app to control their home console and to stream video game action from the Xbox One to their PC.

The company is also exploring how it can offer streaming services that go in the other direction to make sure that players can easily switch between their two platforms.

There are also plans to add cross-platform play for some future titles, but Microsoft will continue to keep franchises like Halo or Forza exclusive to the Xbox One at the moment.

The company appreciates those who picked up Kinect

One of the most interesting tidbits from the interview is that Microsoft says that, when it comes to customer research, the happiest customers for the Xbox brand are those who have bought a Kinect motion tracking sensor and still use it to control their Xbox One or 360 console.

Phil Spencer is also saying that the company will seek to integrate the HoloLens tech into future gaming projects, like Minecraft, although it seems that initially the Augmented Reality tech will be sold to companies that seek more business-focused applications.

The Kinect data might also mean that Microsoft could try to make motion tracking relevant in the long term.

Rumors from earlier in the year also suggested that an open application environment would be offered on the Xbox One before the end of the year, but no official announcement about it has been made yet.

The Microsoft console is lagging behind the PlayStation 4 in terms of sales both worldwide and in the United States.
