Blizzard lead designer Geoff Goodman revealed his team is working to change up Overwatch's Torbjorn in a big way. The plan is to make Torbjorn more offensive, by removing Molten Core and giving him the ability to toss his turrets out.

In an interview with VG247, Goodman said, "With Torbjorn, the issues we're trying to solve are that he's a little overly defensive focused. We need him to be more viable on offense in a non-payload situation. It doesn't mean he needs to be equal on offense, but we need him at least to not be a troll pick." Goodman further explained that Torbjorn's abilities "snowball" by starting out weak and becoming incredibly powerful by the end of a match. Goodman doesn't want players who use Torbjorn to bounce back and forth between being useless and being useful. Torbjorn should be able to assist his team at any point in the match.

As of right now, Torbjorn needs to move to wherever he wants to place a turret and frantically build upon it to be of any use. Without his Ultimate, Molten Core, at the ready to speed up the process, it's a difficult strategy to pull off in the middle of a firefight. Blizzard plans on changing Torbjorn's turret ability so he now throws it out in front of him, already partially upgraded. "This plays a lot better on offense--especially because you can run up, throw it in a flank spot and be immediately shooting again and not feel like you have to sit there hammering it," Goodman said. "We can obviously tune the turret if it ends up being too strong or anything, but that's the place we're starting from."

With this change in place, Molten Core suddenly loses a lot of its purpose. So Blizzard has plans of removing the Ultimate ability or, at the very least, changing Molten Core to a normal ability. Either way, Torbjorn would end up with an entirely new Ultimate. Nothing is set in stone yet, as Blizzard is still tinkering with the balance of Torbjorn's throwing out his turret as opposed to moving with it, but Goodman confirms the team is currently leaning towards removing Molten Core.

Blizzard has not yet shared when Torbjorn's rework is scheduled to come out. In the meantime, players can look forward to the balance changes being made to five of Overwatch's support characters, and the release of Overwatch's newest hero, Wrecking Ball.
