Developer Young Horses revealed that its quirky party game Octodad: Dadliest Catch sold 459,735 units in the year it’s been out.

The independent adventure game follows an undercover Octopus in disguise as a typical suburban father, trying to complete various mundane task to comedic effect due to his lack of bones.

Players guide the protagonist as he attempts to maneuver his way through various everyday challenges, while keeping the fact that he is actually a cephalopod under wraps.

The game can be played by up to four players, each in control of two of the Octodad’s eight limbs, and it’s generally considered a fun experience due to the inevitable slapstick humor.
Relevant statistics a year after launch

The game is available on the Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Mac OS X and Linux platforms, and the developers revealed that the lion’s share of the profits came from the PC edition of the title, accounting for 61.1 percent.

Next in line was the PlayStation 4 with 32.6 percent, followed by Mac with 5.5 percent and Linux with 0.8 percent.

The developer further revealed that the game took two years and seven months to make, and a total of 28k hours of work, put in by a team of nine members.

Further statistics revealed by Young Horses show that 37 percent of the players who bought the game finished its story campaign, and that the various Let’s Play videos created by YouTubers earned over 200 million views in total.

In addition to this, the team pointed out that Octodad: Dadliest Catch was not featured as a PlayStation Plus free game, an action which might have had a different effect on sales.

The game is a weird one, focused on friends and family fun, and it earned a total of $4.9 / € million over the course of its first year.
