YouTubers and Twitch streamers are an integral piece of the puzzle for modern service games, and Fortnite is no exception. Epic has just announced that the studio will pay it forward with cash going out to content makers with its new Support-A-Creator promotion. Fans will pledge support of their favourite creators, and those selected will get a percentage of the profits.

The Support-A-Creator event begins with the next update and will last until the end of the year. During that time, you can select a creator to support via their Epic tag in the in-game item shop. While your support is pledged, a percentage of any V-Bucks you spend will go to support your creator of choice.

Specifically, creators will get $5 for every 10,000 V-Bucks spent by supporting players, whether that be on Fortnite skins or anything else. 10,000 V-Bucks translates to $100, so that means roughly 5% can be paid out of everything Epic earns from in-game purchases. But the percentage can actually be a bit better than that, since the promotion also applies to bonus V-Bucks you can pick up from the Battle Pass or by buying in bulk.

Creators will have to register to be eligible for support, but the requirements are pretty broad. You’ll need to have regularly made Fortnite content in the last month, and have at least 1,000 followers on a “major social platform.” It’s open worldwide – except in China, Iran, North Korea, or any other countries where U.S. law might get in the way.

It’s not a crazy percentage on its face, but $5 of every $100 that Fortnite makes could certainly be lucrative for those with engaged audiences. Epic does warn against anyone making “clickbait infomercials,” though – “Please be authentic. The most successful creators build audiences over the long term by being genuine and entertaining.”
