A new rumor has come up suggesting the next Call of Duty will be set in space. The rumor certainly sounds outlandish, but this one comes from shinobi602, an actual industry insider who has been careful not to share anything to be proven fake (or for that matter, that would compromise official reveals). He actually shared these details on a thread about an earlier rumor, stating that the first two Modern Warfare games would be pre-order bonuses for it.

When we reported this first rumor, we posited that it could be the next Modern Warfare game. However, shinobi suggests otherwise, stating that the game will be set in the far future, and that this time, there will be space combat. This does go in line with Infinity Ward’s last game, Call of Duty: Ghosts. Call of Duty: Ghosts starts out with an ambush on a space station, and it would not be unlikely that Infinity Ward would build on that for their next game. In fact, there have been rumors of Call of Duty: Ghosts 2 as well, allegedly leaked by accident by another news outlet in a list of most anticipated games for this year.

It may also be possible that both rumors are true, as there seem to be unmentioned links between Modern Warfare and Ghosts. A fan figured out that there was such a connection between Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2‘s ending and Call of Duty: Ghosts’ opening.
