A month has passed since the surprise return of Rock Band 3 downloadable content, which spurred many fans of the music rhythm genre to believe that Harmonix was preparing for a series comeback. The company has since sent out a survey to gauge interest in a future Rock Band title, and now another DLC release seems to be hinting at a return for the series.

Harmonix brought an unexpected return to downloadable content for Rock Band 3 about a month ago, marking the end of a 2-year silence in regards to official releases. Prior to that, the company had supplied fans with weekly releases for an astounding 280 weeks in a row, leaving the game with over 3,500 songs in its online library.

Today, Harmonix is bringing in two tracks from Tenacious D and Weezer, both of whom have been featured in the game before. Their song titles seem to share the theme of a comeback, making it a likely on-the-nose statement from Harmonix regarding the recent hype building for a Rock Band 4 release.

Here’s the two comeback-themed songs as per the Rock Band forums:

Available on Xbox 360 and PlayStation®3 system (February 17th, 2015):

• Tenacious D – “Rize Of The Fenix”
• Weezer – “Back To The Shack”

Price: $1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU per song

It’s obvious that ‘Rize Of The Fenix’ is a title Harmonix is using to implicate the rebirth of the franchise, à la a phoenix rising from the ashes. Weezer’s ‘Back to the Shack’ also implies they’re getting back to work, and one of the Harmonix staff acknowledged fans noticing the title theme by stating “Wait, there’s a theme!?” in a forum-based response.

There’s still no official word that the studio is cooking up a return of the series for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U, but they’re certainly doing everything else aside of a direct announcement.

We’ve already speculated what we’d like to see in a potential Rock Band 4 release, which covers a few topics that Harmonix touched upon in their recent survey. It’s looking more and more likely that a series comeback is on the way, and Harmonix’s coy release and comments are only stoking the fire. We’ll keep you updated as more information comes out.

Do you think Rock Band 4 will be announced in 2015?

Both tracks are set to release for Rock Band 3 on February 17th, 2015.
