In anticipation of the release of Far Cry 6, a new and chilling trailer featuring Giancarlo Esposito has been revealed. The Far Cry series of games are known for their portrayal of disarmingly charismatic villains, and Esposito’s Antón Castillo appears to be no exception.

Ubisoft has been steadily releasing more information about Far Cry 6 in the run-up to its October release. Along with new snippets of information, multiple Far Cry 6 previews have also been released into the world. So far, the game appears to be a fairly standard Far Cry game, with the Caribbean islands of Yara merely setting up a new location for some very similar gameplay. However, whether or not the previews are a true reflection of the entirety of the final product remains to be seen. One aspect of Far Cry 6 that has certainly enticed players already is the character Antón Castillo, the ruthless Yaran dictator and the game’s main antagonist.

Several Far Cry 6 gameplay trailers have focused on this fictional villain, but now fans are getting a look at Antón’s actor, Giancarlo Esposito himself. In a trailer shared by Ubisoft, the acclaimed thespian takes on the live role of Castillo for a bone-chilling Far Cry 6 teaser. Throughout the trailer, which Esposito narrates, the actor mocks the viewer for even daring to think they could take on someone as powerful as Antón Castillo. He likens the guerrillas to “untamed circus animal(s),” whose means to fight Castillo include playing with dogs (cue Far Cry 6’s adorable amigo Chorizo) and making weapons out of trash. Esposito then reiterates Castillo’s power, drawing attention to the dictator’s “exquisite firearm, forged from solid gold” and his tank driving, helicopter flying Yaran army. Needless to say, this trailer is a foreboding one, but it is laced with Esposito’s delectable charm.

Esposito’s claim that Far Cry 6’s Antón Castillo is his “most monstrous villain yet” is certainly a bold one, given the impressive roster of villains that span his career. With his roles in Breaking Bad as Gus Fring and as The Mandalorian’s Moff Gideon, Esposito is certainly no stranger to taking on the mantle of the baddy. However, he has managed to bring a magnetism to all of his characters, no matter how dangerous and morally questionable they may be.

If this latest Far Cry 6 trailer is anything to go by, fans will not be disappointed by the actor’s portrayal of Castillo. Giancarlo Esposito has fully embraced his role as the malevolent dictator, and this villainous character may well be what lifts Far Cry 6 above being simply a formulaic shoot ‘em up in a tropical locale.

Far Cry 6 comes to Google Stadia, PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S on October 7, 2021.
