Driveclub developer Evolution Studios confirms that it's just rolled out a fresh server update for the game's multiplayer mode, meaning most players should finally be allowed to go online and pair up with similarly-skilled opponents.

Driveclub was one of the most anticipated PS4 exclusives of this fall season, especially since the game got delayed by almost one whole year so that developer Evolution and publisher Sony could deliver the best social racing experience.

Unfortunately, when it officially launched, the game's much-lauded multiplayer mechanics didn't work due to the overwhelmed servers. Evolution quickly confirmed that it was trying to remedy the situation, but the issue has kept persisting over the last few weeks.

A new server update is available

According to the latest statement made on the official Facebook page, Evolution has just rolled out a new server update and confirms that most Driveclub owners should no longer encounter any problems in going online and competing with others.

"Our diagnostics show the majority of you are now able to get online and racing. This increased stability has meant that statistics and accolades are updating efficiently now, so hopefully you have been having fun boosting your fame and watching how you compare to your friends and other racers around the world," the studio explains.

Better matchmaking has also been implemented

Besides the improved online mode, the new update also includes tweaks to the matchmaking system, so that players are paired up with similarly-skilled opponents while engaging in direct head-to-head competitive races.

"We also released a server update to optimize multiplayer matchmaking so you will now be matched with more suitable players based on the type of internet connection you have, which means matchmaking should be more reliable. This update will also fix some bugs we had with clubs where some players couldn't join or leave a club," the studio adds.

Another big update for the actual game is expected to appear later this week and Evolution confirms that the patch is going to fix remaining connectivity issues and provide a better overall racing experience for owners of the game.

Unfortunately, there's still no word on when the free Driveclub PS Plus edition will be made available, despite the fact that Sony promised its launch during the month of October. Until all online issues are fixed, PS Plus members shouldn't expect to get the racing title for free.

Expect to hear more about Driveclub's current multiplayer state and the fate of the PS Plus version in the following days and weeks.
