Although the series may have seemed dead, Fable was reported as coming back last year. However, even though many fans expected Fable to play a part in the Xbox press conference at E3 2019, the game was nowhere to be seen - even though the Xbox event shared a huge amount of content across the board.

Fable was initially developed by Lionhead Studios and became one of the top Xbox console exclusive properties available. Although the games perhaps never lived up to the lofty expectations set (in part thanks to Lionhead found Peter Molyneux), nonetheless they found much love before the franchise started disintegrating through the cancellation of asymmetrical multiplayer game Fable Legends and the closure of Lionhead Studios. Rumors abounded that Forza developer Playground Games was picking up Fable in 2018, and fans had eyes peeled on E3 2019 after an announcement was suggested.

As it turns out, this speculation turned out to be nothing more than the rumor mill. Playground Games did not share anything about its reported Fable project at the Xbox press conference at the expo, much to the disappointment of fans. After so many supposedly reliable sources confirming the existence of this game, it was surprising to see it failing to make an appearance.

Xbox came out swinging for E3 2019, showcasing such beloved franchises as Halo and Gears of War, and so it seemed as though it would have been the perfect opportunity for Fable to make a reappearance. After all, with PlayStation missing out on E3 altogether this year, it could have been an open goal for Microsoft to really hammer home that Xbox users are getting plenty of exciting exclusives.

As such, some may wonder whether the news of a Fable resurrection may have been a little premature. Alternatively, it may well be that there is nothing much to show of the new Fable game just yet. Indeed, there were so many games unveiled at E3 2019 as part of the Xbox presentation that perhaps it was decided that until there is something more finite in place then Fable is being kept secret.

Even so, it won't do much for those fans of the franchise hoping to have some confirmation that it hasn't been forgotten about entirely. Even a side comment from Phil Spencer would have been enough to cause a bit of a stir, so hopefully Fable hasn't gone back into the archives just yet.
