When beloved developer Keiji Inafune, creator of Mega Man, announced he was leaving Capcom, the company pulled the plug on all Mega Man-related projects, leading many fans to speculate that the Blue Bomber was getting put out to pasture. But Inafune didn’t stay out of the limelight for long, quickly founding his own game company, COMCEPT USA, and taking to KickStarter to get his Mega Man spiritual successor Mighty No. 9 funded. Fan response was quick and rabid, with the game meeting, and exceeding, it’s financial goals.

Since then, Mighty No. 9 has chugged along in development, keeping fans updated on the progress of the game. But when Mighty No. 9’s updates slowed to a trickle, fans began to question when they would see the game. After a bit of silence, COMCEPT has revealed the lack of updates was due to a delay, pushing the original estimated Spring release date back to September. But this delay wasn’t due to infighting or developmental problems; the delay was so the company could prepare to give Mighty No. 9 a physical release.

COMCEPT revealed they have teamed with publisher Deep Silver to release a physical copy of the game for Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U for $29.99. In addition to a physical release, the partnership between COMCEPT and Deep Silver has lead to more features being implemented in the game, with Japanese and French voice-overs being added to the game’s original English voice-overs, and a plethora of subtitle options being added.

COMCEPT also announced that the physical release of Mighty No. 9 will now include the Ray DLC, free of charge. Originally KickStarted in October of 2014, this DLC will allow fans to play an extra level with a unique boss as Mighty’s rival Ray. Once this level has been completed, Ray will become available, allowing gamers to replay the game as Mighty’s rival. While this DLC was initially going to be given to backers of the KickStarter and then become available as paid DLC, the partnership has allowed COMCEPT to include it as a part of the base game. However, the digital release of the game will not include this DLC, so fans that opt to download the game will have to purchase the Ray pack separately.

While COMCEPT has promised that Mighty No.9 will release on September 15th for PC and major consoles, the release date for PS Vita and the 3DS has not yet been revealed. COMCEPT says they are actively working on getting Mighty No. 9 working for handhelds, but that it will require a little more fine-tuning.

The partnership between COMCEPT and Deep Silver is definitely fortuitous for Keiji Inafune’s little game, and will allow even more fans of Mega Man-inspired run ‘n gun gameplay to enjoy the title. Early impressions of Mighty No. 9 were favorable, but it remains to be seen if the delay will ultimately help or hinder Mighty No. 9.

Mighty No. 9 releases September 15, 2015 for PS4, Wii U, Xbox One at retail, and digital-only for PC, Ps3, Xbox 360, Mac, and Linux.
