The third-person shooter will stay a true Xbox One exclusive, unlike Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3

Microsoft discounted the rumor that Insomniac Games' third-person shooter Sunset Overdrive would also be coming to PC, stating that the game would remain an Xbox One exclusive title.

NeoGAF user Lucifon spotted an ad for Sunset Overdrive that also listed PC as a platform, and due to the fact that all such ads are pre-approved and that it looked legitimate, the rumor that Microsoft might have leaked the information ahead of time started making rounds on the Internet.

The information comes at a pretty bad time for Microsoft, as the PlayStation 4 vs. Xbox One dispute is one of the hottest issues in gaming right now.
A case of not-quite-perfect timing

The information that Sunset Overdrive would be coming to PC quickly picked up pace, due mainly to the fact that Ryse: Son of Rome and Dead Rising 3, two former Xbox One exclusives, also made their way to the PC platform, some months after their debut on Microsoft's home console.

Thus, the Xbox One was criticized for not having proper exclusives, with many gamers fearing that the main reason to own such a gaming device, the ability to play games that aren't available anywhere else, such as the latest installment in the Halo franchise, would be rendered irrelevant.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 is getting a ton of exciting exclusives that will stay that way on Sony's platform, in the form of Bloodborne, The Order: 1886 and many others, making Microsoft's offer seem less enticing in comparison.

There has been a lot of noise regarding what is perceived to be an upcoming trend of Xbox One exclusive titles making their way to PC after a few months, a trend that would steer more people toward the PS4, which is something that Microsoft wants to avoid.

Fortunately, Sunset Overdrive will remain an Xbox One exclusive

Microsoft's Mike Ybarra was quick to address the issue via Twitter, stating that the ad was a mistake, and that Insomniac Games' crazy over-the-top action shooter is not coming to PC, and will stay an Xbox One exclusive video game, apologizing for any confusion the ad might have caused.

Keeping strong titles exclusive to its newest platform is a priority for Microsoft right now, after all the bad press the console received last year, and after all the hype being built around the upcoming PlayStation 4 exclusives.

Sunset Overdrive is a fun-filled vibrant game that offers a different take on the classic zombie apocalypse scenario. Instead of running for your life struggling to survive, you're running and jumping all over the place, blowing up all kinds of mutants while racking up monster scores.

The game's main draw is the "agile combat" system, with players having to always keep on the move, navigating the colorful landscapes of Sunset City.

Sunset Overdrive is due out tomorrow, on October 28, in North America, and on October 31 in Europe.
