The Powerman 5000 metal band claims that one of the songs used in Final Fantasy XIV is a little too similar to their work to be just a coincidence.

It's difficult to imagine that you can use someone else's work in a game, especially one as big and important as Final Fantasy XIV, and think that no one will notice. One of the songs used in Final Fantasy XIV got the attention of the lead singer for Powerman 5000, a metal band. He says that it's one thing to be inspired and a different matter to just steal the work.
A user revealed this apparent resemblance on the official forums, and he felt pretty strongly about it, but it turns out that not everyone can hear the similarities. It might be more obvious to the people who wrote the original piece, Powerman5000 (When Worlds Collide), but regular players might not be able to spot it.
Blown out of proportion After the discussion started on the official forums and on Facebook, the debate spiraled out of control, and the lead singer Spider One said that he didn't want anything from Square Enix and that he was no longer debating this issue.
"Really? Got to say that the level of unimaginative theft that was used in creating this music for ‪#‎finalfantasyXIV‬ is mind blowing! I mean, this is When Worlds Collide! Using something as inspiration is one thing but a straight up rip off is another! Did they really think no one would notice?" wrote Spider One.
One of the developers of the game, Naoki Yoshida, commented on the issue and explained how the music for 2nd Phase of Containment Bay S1T7 was chosen and created. It came from composer Masayoshi Soken, who also declared that he's not aware of Powerman 5000 and their work.
Basically, this has been declared a simple coincidence by Square Enix. You can judge by yourselves after watching the videos below.
