The new trailer for Marvel's Avengers has revealed that the characters and environments have gone through extensive redesigns. The title was originally announced in 2017 as "The Avengers Project", and then at E3 2019 Square Enix showed a full trailer and gave out more details about the game's premise.

When the first trailer was released, fan feedback was mostly positive, but a significant portion of fans criticized the design of the Avengers themselves. Several fans felt that the Avengers should resemble the MCU versions of the characters, but paying for those likenesses would have been very expensive for Square Enix. The critiques of Thor and Black Widow in particular were very strong, as fans felt that both characters were underdeveloped. Shortly after the unveiling though, developers stated that they were listening to the worries of fans and that they would be working on changes.

Marvel Entertainment (via Multiplayer First) released a new trailer and it seems will be getting the character changes that they wanted. Thor in particular has been given a new hairstyle and a much cleaner looking beard, as well being made to look much more polished in general. The Hulk also has a more detailed character model, and the environments of the trailer have become more detailed. Ultimately, it seems as though Marvel's Avengers is pushing for more a more realistic look than the original trailer conveyed.

Originally, Marvel's Avengers was set to release in May, but has been delayed until September. The developers wanted to ensure that there was enough time to give the game enough work and polish ahead of release. Specifically they stated, "fine tuning and polishing the game to the high standards our fans expect and deserve...we're confident it will be worth the wait." While the character redesigns weren't the only reason for the delay, it stands to reason that the company had to take a hard look at the game as a whole once fans gave their feedback. On top of this the delay is most likely a good thing, as it will ensure that the game is the best quality possible and hopefully stop developers from entering crunch.

Marvel's Avengers is greatly anticipated by the video game community, and Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics want to ensure the title is the best it can possibly be. The Avengers are some of the most popular pieces of pop culture in the world, so it is vitally important that this game is well received. Luckily, fan feedback seems to have been taken to heart as the new designs are a large improvement over their originals incarnations.

Marvel's Avengers will release on September 4th, 2020 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Google Stadia.
