Linux Kernel 3.12.57 LTS Out Now with ALSA, EFI, and Xen Improvements, Bugfixes
On March 18, 2016, kernel developer Jiri Slaby announced the release of the fifty-seventh maintenance build of the long-term supported Linux 3.12 kernel series.
Earlier this week, we announced several Linux kernel maintenance releases, including Linux kernel 4.4.6 LTS, Linux kernel 3.14.65 LTS, Linux kernel 3.10.101 LTS, Linux kernel 4.1.20 LTS, and Linux kernel 3.18.29 LTS, and today we're informing our readers about the release of Linux kernel 3.12.57 LTS.
According to the appended shortlog, the Linux kernel 3.12.57 LTS release is a fairly normal one, changing a total of 63 files, with 1,099 insertions and 386 deletions. Most of the changes are, as expected, updates to various drivers, including ATA, EFI, GPU (mostly Radeon), Ethernet, MTD, IOMMU, USB, and Xen.
"I'm announcing the release of the 3.12.57 kernel. All users of the 3.12 kernel series must upgrade," said Jiri Slaby. "The updated 3.12.y git tree can be browsed at the normal kernel.org git web browser: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git;a=summary."
Linux 3.12 LTS users need to update as soon as possible Besides the updated drivers, Linux kernel 3.12.57 LTS adds improvements to the CIFS, JFFS2, EFIvarFS, and NFS filesystems, along with various fixes for the x86, MIPS, and PowerPC (PPC) hardware architectures. The networking stack has been updated as well, bringing improvements to the mac80211 framework and wireless extensions.
As usual, we are urging all users of the Linux 3.12 LTS kernel series to upgrade to today's 3.12.57 maintenance release as soon as possible, or more precisely as soon as the update lands in the main software repositories of their GNU/Linux operating systems. You can also download the Linux kernel 3.12.57 LTS sources right now from the kernel.org website of via Softpedia.
