The 3DS has been the best-selling video game console in Japan for a long time, but from time to time, Nintendo needs to undermine the domination of the handheld, which has seen a very big boost this week as a new generation of Pokemon remakes has been offered for it.

The platform has managed to move 88,653 units to gamers in the week that ended on November 23, which is a little more than it did at the same time during 2013 and a solid improvement over the 65,201 it managed during the previous seven-day period.

Meanwhile, the PlayStation 4 managed to take a step up and reach second place, although its own sales have declined to 12,430 coming from 15,537, according to Media Create data quoted by NeoGAF.

The PlayStation Vita handheld from Sony has seen an even bigger decrease in its own fortunes and has reached 10,857 coming from 19,976, which might be a sign that the console is no longer attractive for gamers.

The Wii U is once again down and under the 10,000 mark, despite the fact that Super Smash Bros. is set to be launched soon.

The PlayStation 3 has sold 4,324 units, while the Xbox One has dropped under the 1,000 mark once more.

It will be interesting to see whether the 3DS can maintain the current sales for the coming weeks or if the Wii U manages to put in a solid performance of its own.
Pokemon rules the video game chart for the week

The new Pokemon remakes, Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, have managed to sell 1,327,671 copies on the 3DS in their normal and separate incarnations during just three days, and that makes them some of the most successful launches of the year.

At the same time, the games have also performed well enough as a Dual Pack to reach second place in the video game chart for the week.

The last position on the podium belongs to another new entry, Dynasty Warriors 8: Empires, which Koei Tecmo has delivered on the PlayStation 3, with overall sales of 38,123.

The rest of the top ten includes: Assassin's Creed: Unity for the PS4, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate on 3DS, World Soccer Winning Eleven 2015 on the PS3, the 3Ds version of Yo-kai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare - Subtitled Edition on PS3, and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.
